Nieuwenhuis Signs with Iowa Women’s Wrestling

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Maddie Nieuwenhuis has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Iowa women’s wrestling program, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Clarissa Chun. Nieuwenhuis is the No. 2 ranked recruit at 100 pounds. She’s also ranked No. 5 overall.
“Maddie is eager to be a Hawkeye,” said Chun. “She wants to continue to learn, grow, develop, and be a part of a program that aligns with what she wants to accomplish both academically and athletically. She also brings a different style to our 103-pound weight class. I’m excited to see her learn and grow alongside our current Hawkeyes.”
Nieuwenhuis is the first three-time state champion in Plainwell High School history. The Plainwell, Michigan, native is a perfect 26-0 across three varsity seasons with the Trojans, with 25 pins and one technical fall.
Nieuwenhuis is also a standout student. She is a member of the National Honors Society and earned Academic All-State distinction in 2024 and 2025. She currently holds a 4.13 GPA.
