IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa rowing team finished the fall racing along the Iowa River and Lake Carnegie for the Iowa and Princeton Chases.

IOWA CHASE
Saturday morning, juniors through master’s level rowers took on the 3500-meter course. In time trial format, the Hawkeyes swept all boat classes against Drake.

QUOTING ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH MEGAN FITZPATRICK
“It was great to see our first years compete for the first time as Hawkeyes! They showed good depth across the whole squad and we’re looking forward to how they’ll take that into our winter training block”, said Fitzpatrick. “As a team we hit the split times we were looking for and did a good job executing the race plans we outlined in practice this week.”

PRINCETON CHASE
Sunday, the Hawkeyes took on the Princeton Chase, facing off against seven ranked opponents. In the 62 varsity eight field, Iowa’s A boat finished 15th. Both boats recorded program best times for the 3-mile course. In the fours, Iowa mixed up line-ups and finished 16th, 17th and 18th, showing consistency throughout the program.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH JEFF GARBUTT

We showed really solid performances from all boats this weekend and I am excited about the progress that the program is making. Coach Fitzpatrick did a great job leading our athletes at home. It was great for our newcomers to get their first victories as Hawkeyes and our experienced athletes did a great job leading throughout the weekend.”
