IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 7 University of Iowa women’s soccer team defeated Maryland, 2-0, on Thursday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes move to 9-2-3 on the season and 4-1-2 in Big Ten Conference play.

Graduate student Kenzie Roling broke the tie in the 33rd minute finding the goal off a loose ball. The goal marks Roling’s third of the season and her first since the, 3-0, victory over Saint Louis on Aug. 31.

Iowa outshot Maryland, 9-2, in the first 45 minutes. Despite the wide shooting margin, Iowa was only able to find the back of the net once in the first half. At the break, the Hawkeyes led Maryland, 7-0.

Graduate student Kelli McGroarty expanded the Hawkeye lead in the 74th minute off an assist from junior Sofia Bush. McGroarty leads Iowa on the season with five goals while bush leads the team in assists with five.

Iowa would hold on to their, 2-0, lead and win the game. The Hawkeye offense was in full attack throughout the game, outshooting Maryland, 27-3. Iowa fired 11 shots on goal while allowing just one shot on goal.

Maryland goalkeeper Faith Luckey had nine saves to limit the Iowa scoring while graduate student Taylor Kane had one save to post her fifth shutout of the season.
