No. 10 Hawkeyes Draw with Michigan, 1-1

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 10 University of Iowa women’s soccer team tied with Michigan, 1-1, on Saturday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes move to 8-2-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in Big Ten conference play.

The first 45-minutes remained scoreless; however, Iowa controlled the first half. Throughout the first 45 minutes the Hawkeyes fired seven shots while holding the Wolverines to just one. Iowa put two shots on goal while Michigan didn’t put any on goal.

Michigan goalkeeper Sophie Homan had two saves in the first half to keep the Hawkeyes off the board. After 45 minutes it was a scoreless tie between the two Big Ten foes.

Michigan would strike first with Jenna Lang giving the Wolverines a, 1-0, advantage in the 60th minute. Lang’s first shot attempt was deflected before she was able to convert on her second shot.

Graduate student Miah Schueller was able to tie the match in the 68th minute on a goal from long distance off a corner kick. It marked the first goal of Schueller’s collegiate career. Junior Abby Skiff was credited for the assist.

Despite the Hawkeyes outshooting the Wolverines, 14-4, in the second half and, 21-5, for the game the match would finish a, 1-1, tie. Sophomore goalkeeper Fernanda Mayrink finished with one save while Homan finished with four.
