Iowa Takes Sixth at Moraine Intercollegiate

MORAINE, Ohio – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished sixth overall at the Moraine Intercollegiate at Moraine Country Club.
Redshirt freshman Grant Gudgel led the Hawkeyes, finishing seventh at six-under-par. Gudgel shot an even-par 71 in the third round to secure his first career top-10 finish.
Senior Gage Messingham finished 13th overall at four-under-par, marking his fifth career top-25 finish and second consecutive top-25 showing. He carded a two-over 73 in the third round.
Sophomore Chance Rinkol ended the tournament in 40th place at three-over-par. Rinkol started strong with three front-nine birdies in the third round and finished four-over through 18 holes.
Junior Max Tjoa tied as the top finisher for the Hawkeyes in the third round, shooting even-par 71 with five birdies. He finished the tournament at seven-over-par, bouncing back with even-par rounds in both the second and third rounds.
Freshman Bennett Warren, who entered the round at even par, shot a 77 (+6), including a bogey on the 13th hole, to finish 49th overall.

“It’s another step in the right direction. The team and two players had a chance to win heading into the final round. We just weren’t as sharp today. I don’t feel like putts were dropping out there and we had a few more big numbers. It was a great experience that we will benefit from.”
