NORMAN, Oklahoma – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continued competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center, showcasing strong play in main draw singles action.

Daianne Hayashida and Pia Kranholdt advanced in main draw singles play, earning straight-set victories to lead the Hawkeyes. Hayashida defeated Anna Putilina of Kansas, 6-4, 6-2, while Kranholdt posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Minnesota’s Mia Liepert. Tereza Dejnozkova battled in a tight three-set contest against Nebraska’s Emma Rizzetto before falling, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Hawkeyes continued its success in doubles play, recording multiple wins across the main and consolation draws. Hayashida and Dejnozkova opened with an 8-2 victory over Kinley VanPelt and Anna Putilina of Kansas, before falling to Chloe Noel and Gloriana Nahum of Oklahoma, 8-6, in the round of 16. Eline Bex and Nikita Vishwase tallied an 8-5 win over Lilitha Sithenkosi Ndungane and Erin McKenzie of Tulsa, before narrowly falling to Anet Koskel and Carolina Gomez Alonso of Kansas, 8-7. In consolation play, Sally Xu and Kranholdt earned an 8-2 victory over Missouri’s Gian Octa and Alex Ackman.

The Hawkeyes will continue competition in the main draw singles and doubles consolation tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m. (CT).
