Gold Team Bounces Back To Tie Black and Gold World Series

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Gold Team evened the series taking game two of the University of Iowa baseball team’s annual Black and Gold World Series, 3-0 in a six-inning game on Thursday afternoon at Duane Banks Field.

Brody Irlbeck got the start for the Gold Team and was lights out allowing no runs in four innings of work to earn the win, he struck out six. Maddux Frese relived him and struck out two in his two innings of work.

Matthew Delgado and Tyler Guerin each plated a run on a sacrifice fly while Kellen Strohmeyer was able to score on an error.

Carter Wilcox started for the Black team and gave up two unearned runs in three innings of work. Beau Leasure threw the final two innings and allowed one run and struck out two.

Gable Mitchell knocked a double for the Black squad and Caleb Wulf and Carter Geffre both notched a hit.

The Hawkeyes will host the decisive third game of the Black and Gold World Series on Thursday at Duane Banks Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., and admission is free.
