Hawkeyes Tied for 7th After First Day of the Boilermaker Classic

West Lafayette, Ind. – The University of Iowa women’s golf team opened play in the Boilermaker Classic on Monday and currently sits in a tie for seventh place out of 14 teams through 36 holes at the Kampen-Cosler Course. The Hawkeyes posted a 298 in the opening round and followed it with a 303 in round two, bringing their two-round total to 601 (+25).

Sophomore Ximena Benites is leading the team, currently sitting in a tie for 16th place with a two-round total of 147 (+3). The Trujillo, Peru native tied her career low with a 69 in the opening round after carding six birdies. She added two more birdies in her second round.

Senior Shannyn Vogler is tied for 30th place at seven-over-par after shooting a 75 in round one and a 76 in round two.

Junior Maura Peters opened with a 77 before improving to a 75 in round two, bringing her 36-hole total to 152 (+8). She is currently tied for 33rd.

In her first tournament as a Hawkeye, freshman Sunny Wang bounced back with a 75 in round two—an improvement of three strokes from her opening round.

Ole Miss leads the team race by two strokes over Indiana after finishing the first two rounds at two-over-par.
