(Update 9/7 10:30-a.m.) Fatal UTV accident in Wright County

(Goldfield, Iowa) – An accident involving a UTV near Goldfield, in Iowa’s Wright County, has claimed one person’s life and resulted in injuries to another person. The Iowa State Patrol says a John Deere Gator was traveling near the Boone River in the area of Highway 3 at around 3:10-a.m. today (Saturday). when the operator misjudged how close the machine was to the river.

The Gator entered the river after a significant drop from the river bank. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger, 20-year-old McKenna Mae Woodbeck, of Huxley, died at the scene after being trapped beneath the UTV. The driver, 21-year-old Levi Edward Rasmussen, of Goldfield, was injured and transported by Eagle Grove Ambulance to Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Grove Police and Ambulance, as well as the Goldfield Fire Department.
