AMES, Iowa – Iowa State swimming and diving rising sophomore Grace Swoboda will return to campus this fall following two top 10 finishes at the TYR Summer Championships. Swoboda competed in both the 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California earlier this month.
Swoboda qualified for the B final in the 50 breast last Tuesday morning and swam to 10th place finish that evening with a time of 32.71. She returned to the pool on Friday to qualify for the B final in the 100 breast. Swoboda swam 1:11.01, shaving off nine-tenths of a second from her preliminary time, to finish 10th in the final.
In her freshman season at Iowa State, Swoboda broke the freshman 100 breast record with a time of 1:01.02, becoming the second-fastest performer in ISU history. She also helped the 200 medley relay squad (Emma Kuhn, Carley Caughron, Andie Quirke) post the second-fastest time in school history at 1:39.96.
