IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore running back Kamari Moulton has been named a preseason candidate for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, it was announced Tuesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

The award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top college running back, is named for SMU’s three-time All-American running back Doak Walker. This season marks the 35th edition of the award.

Moulton (5-foot-9, 205 pounds) played in 12 games, starting two, and rushed for 473 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. He amassed a career-high 114 yards, including a career-long 68-yard touchdown run, in a 29-13 win at Maryland. Moulton was also named to the Athlon’s Preseason All-Big Ten Third Team.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on Dec. 12, 2025.

Former Hawkeye Shonn Greene won the award in 2008, while Kaleb Johnson (2024) was a finalist and Albert Young (2005) was a semifinalist.

The Hawkeyes kickoff the season against UAlbany on Aug. 30, at Kinnick Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. (CT). Tickets are available for purchase for the season opener at hawkeyesports.com/tickets.
