1 dead, 5 injured in NE Iowa crash Saturday afternoon

(Tripoli, Iowa) – A crash Saturday afternoon in Northeast Iowa’s Bremer County resulted in a death and five persons injured. According to the Iowa State Patrol, that happened at around 1:35-p.m. at the intersection of 190th Street and Piedmont Avenue, south of Tripoli.
Investigators say a 2022 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by 47-year-old Lal Pui Puia Sai Lo, of Des Moines, went through a stop sign and was hit on the driver’s side by a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 82-year-old Trivona Drewis, of Waverly. A passenger in the Toyota, 41-year-old Lungawia Chalthleng, of Urbandale, died at the scene. Authorities say he was not wearing a seat belt.
There were five other people hurt in the crash, and taken to the hospital. The injured were identified as:
- 51-year-old Hming Chunga, and 47-year-old Esther Sui Iang, both of Des Moines.
- 47-year-old Lal Pui Puia Sai Lo, of Des Moines
- 83-year-old Marvin Drewis, of Waverly.
- 82-year-old Trivona Drewis.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Denver and Sumner Ambulance Services, Readlyn & Tripola Fire, the Iowa DNR and other agencies.
