(Updated w/names released) Collision in northern Iowa leaves 1 dead, 3 injured Saturday morning

(Cerro Gordo County, IA) – The Iowa State Patrol, Sunday afternoon, released the names of person involved in a fatal collision Saturday morning between an SUV and a car in northern Iowa.  The accident happened at around 9:25-a.m. at 330th Street and Highway 65, south of the Cerro Gordo and Worth County line, south of Manly (IA).

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2016 Lincoln MKS driven by 85-year-old Joseph T. Costello, of Plymouth (IA), was traveling east on 330th Street at the same time a 2000 Ford Expedition SUV driven by 34-year-old Valinda M. Imus, of Northwood (IA), was traveling south on Highway 65. As the car was traveling through the intersection, it was struck on the driver’s side by the SUV. Joseph Costello died at the scene from his injuries.

Valinda Imus, and two others – 83-year-old Carol J. Costello, of Plymouth, and 30-year-old Deandre D. Harvey, of Fort Dodge – were injured in the crash and transported by Mason City Fire Department Ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. The Patrol says Valinda Imus and Deandre Harvey were not wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The Cerro Gordo and Worth County Sheriff’s Departments, Manly Fire and Rescue and Mason City Fire Department all assisted the Patrol at the crash scene.
