Trey Thompson Signs With Iowa MBB
July 9th, 2025 by Jack McGonigal
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Tennessee native Trey Thompson has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s basketball program, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Ben McCollum.
The Greeneville native reclassified from the Class of 2026 to join the Hawkeyes this fall.
“Trey has a level of versatility that we look for in all of our players,” said McCollum. “He’s 6-foot-8, he’s physical, can really shoot it and pass it. Trey processes the game quickly to be able to trigger offense, which should help us in Big Ten play.”
Thompson is the fourth Class of 2025 prospect to join the Iowa roster, joining West Des Moines’ Trevin Jirak, Oklahoma’s Tate Sage and Missouri’s Peyton McCollum.
He is the 14th player on the Iowa roster along with Drake transfers Bennett Stirtz, Kael Combs, Cam Manyawu, Isaia Howard, Tavion Banks and Joey Matteoni, Robert Morris transfer Alvaro Folgueiras, Kansas State transfer Brendan Hausen and Hawkeye returnees Cooper Koch and walk-on Jacob Koch.
