The Atlantic baseball team’s 2025 season came to an end Friday night in a 7-1 loss to the Harlan Cyclones. Harlan was awarded four free bases to begin the game and score the first run of the game. Junior Jack Muller settled into the game by only giving up one hit in his outing, but three runs allowed. A pair of Trojan defensive miscues gave Harlan a 3-0 lead after three. Junior Jonas Reynolds went six innings on the hill, striking out six and allowing just one run. A big four-run sixth inning for the Cyclones secured the 7-1 victory.

It was a rocky start for the Atlantic ace, as Muller began the game issuing three walks and a hit batsman. The Cyclones scratched two across with the bases loaded no outs opportunity. Muller dialed back with a pair of strikeouts and an infield popup.

Muller settled into the game with a hitless second and third innings. In the fourth, a leadoff Atlantic error to begin the fourth followed up by a 3-1 count ended the evening on the hill for Muller. He was replaced by Junior Hudson McLaren. McLaren, being put in a difficult situation, walked and hit a batter which allowed Landon Kaufman to score.

Heading into the fifth, Atlantic trailed 3-0. A hit batsmen and back-to-back singles gave Atlantic a bases loaded no outs situation. A Gavin McLaren bases-loaded walk would be the only run the Trojans drive in on the night. Later in the inning, confusion on the basepaths on a lineout to right field caused a double play and ended the momentum.

Harlan ahead two going into the bottom of the sixth put up four runs on three hits. The frame was highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Senior Hayden Soma. After Soma’s at bat Cade Nelson brought in another two runs with a single to right field.

Sophomore Colton Schneider came into pitch in the seventh for Harlan and began the final frame by striking out the first two hitters he faced. Gavin McLaren poked one into right field to keep the game alive for one more batter until a called strike three ended the game.
