Griswold/CAM Softball Completes 25-Win Season In First Season of Merger
July 22nd, 2025 by Jack McGonigal
The first year of the new merger between Griswold and CAM ended with a 25-6 season, a conference tournament title and a perfect conference record. Head Coach Jody Rossell said the merger of the two schools began as smooth as possible.
Griswold/CAM began the year 13-0 featuring eight shutouts. CAM/Griswold was ranked as high as 12th in the weekly rankings after the win streak until they suffered their first pair of losses at the Underwood Tournament to Missouri Valley and Ogden. The winning picked up right after the two-game slide by winning four more in a row. In Griswold/CAM’s 17-2 start they had scored at least 14 runs in eight of those victories. Rossell says the team didn’t have any weak spots in the order.
To back up the .348 team batting average was a team earned run average of 2.47. Griswold/CAM was led by Corner Conference First Team member Ailey Wahlert who threw 147 innings and struck out 133 hitters in her freshman campaign. Behind her, Sadie Gohlinghorst who also maintained a sub three earned run average.
Wahlert was one of three players to achieve First Team All-Conference honors as she stood beside senior duo Marissa Askeland and Addison Adams. Two of which who left a lasting impact on the program.
In the postseason, Griswold/CAM beat Underwood in the second round 6-2 after a first-round bye. Eventually the season came to a close in the Class 2A – Region 6 semifinals to West Monona 6-0. Griswold/CAM completed its third 25+ win season in a row and first with the CAM players sharing a dugout. A special merger on the softball diamond seems to be in place for the near future
