(Radio Iowa) – Police in central Iowa say a suspect is in custody after trying to run down pedestrians with his car this (Wednesday) morning. Des Moines police started getting 911 calls around 6:30 AM that a person was chasing pedestrians on foot on Robert Ray Drive downtown, but then more callers said he’d gotten in a car and was trying to run down people on the sidewalk.
The first officer who responded tried to pull the car over, but police say the driver intentionally rammed the squad car and sped off, running red lights and blazing past City Hall, then crashing into the wall of the Embassy Suites hotel.
