IOWA CITY, Iowa — As a result of Friday’s landmark House settlement, the University of Iowa will begin to share revenue directly with student-athletes beginning July 1, 2025.

To further strengthen its financial position and to allow for revenue-sharing, Iowa Athletics has created Flight Funds, a new charitable avenue that allow donors to invest in student-athlete revenue sharing and help Iowa build championship-caliber programs.

Flight Funds will support revenue sharing for football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and men’s wrestling, along with a general support Flight Fund. Contributions to the Flight Funds are tax deductible (check with your tax advisor) and count towards athletic ticket priority points but not towards I-Club seating or parking requirements.

“We are eager to embrace this new era of opportunity for Iowa Athletics,” said Beth Goetz, the Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “We are committed to participating at the maximum level in revenue-sharing with our student-athletes. Through initiatives like Flight Funds and expanded revenue opportunities, we strengthen financial stability while reinforcing our commitment to the success and well-being of our student-athletes.”

As part of the revenue sharing initiative, Iowa Athletics has established a cap management structure that includes designated general managers for each sport program, Marcus Wilson, executive senior associate athletics director for cap management & administration, and Scott Brickman, the department’s general manager for NIL and strategy through a partnership with Altius Sports Partners, to review and approve all agreements. Additionally, Scott Pioli, a former NFL general manager and front office executive with more than a quarter-century of experience at the highest levels, was retained last fall by the department in preparation for revenue sharing and will continue to work with our programs.

Iowa Athletics will expand the network of corporate sponsors and partners to help increase sponsorship revenue and create Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for all Hawkeye student-athletes.
