JEFFERSON, Iowa — [KCCI] – A Jefferson woman was arrested Friday evening for first-degree murder. Deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired just before 7:30 p.m. Friday from a home on M Avenue.

Scanner traffic indicated “one person was down,” and one subject was taken into custody. Authorities found 54-year-old Richard Thompson’s body at the scene. 49-year-old Christene Thompson was arrested on the the murder charge.

No law enforcement officers were injured in connection with the incident. Local agencies, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and state patrol are continuing their investigation. Additional details will be released when available.
