The CAM baseball team remains undefeated after a 6-1 road victory at Exira/EHK Wednesday night. The Cougars tacked on six runs on eight hits highlighted by four in the fifth inning. Junior Collin Bower began on the mound for the Cougars but after just one inning, Sophomore Kayden Winther came into relief and went the rest of the way for CAM. Head Coach Mick Long had high praise for his lone relief pitcher.

The game was scoreless after two innings, but the ice broke after Sophomore Carson McKee scored on a wild pitch in the third. Later in the fourth, Lucas James hit a double down the left field line to begin the inning. That was followed up by a Makade Paulsen double scoring James. After four, the Cougars led 2-0 and Long appreciated the defensive effort.

In the fifth, the Cougars slapped two base hits into right center field. Plus, capitalizing on a few Spartan miscues, the one through four hitters for CAM all came around to score to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead. Winthers kept Exira/EHK off the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh. Starting pitcher for the Spartans, Josh Nelson had a single at the plate and came around to score after a few Exira/EHK base hits.

Long says the confidence is building with the hot start for his team.

CAM has taken the last three from Exira/EHK and 14 of the last 16.
