The Atlantic softball team fell in a home contest to the Creston Panthers 4-0. Creston Senior pitcher, Taryn Fredrickson struck out 12 Trojans while allowing just hit one walk and one hit. Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann complimented Frederickson’s efficiency.
The Panthers plated a run in the first inning with leadoff hitter, Ava Adamson reaching on a fielding error. The Senior Catcher was eventually brought in on a Frederickson RBI double. After the first inning, Sophomore Peyton McLaren kept Creston off the scoreboard until the sixth.
In the sixth, McLaren was able to get the first two outs with minimum difficulty but then hit Evy Marlin with a pitch. Later in the inning, Creston sent back-to-back base hits into left center bringing in Marlin. Mila Kuhns and Sidney Staver were on first and second, followed by a Kennedy Strider walk to load the bases. With the bags full, McLaren managed to get Sasha Wurster to fly out to end the inning at a 2-0 deficit.
Hinzmann decided it was time for small ball for the Trojans in the bottom of the sixth after a Maddie McLaren leadoff walk. McKenna Sontag moved McLaren to second. Unfortunately, for the Trojans a pop-up bunt caught by Adamson ended the momentum.
In the seventh, the bats came alive for Creston. An error followed by back-to-back doubles quickly made it a 4-0 game. Frederickson put up her second double of the game but was later thrown out attempting to steal third by Trojan catcher Alivia Knuth.
In the bottom of the seventh, Zoey Kirchhoff leads off with a single to left center but that was all for the Trojans in the last opportunity at the plate. Atlantic falls to 11-5 on the season and are back at home Thursday against Glenwood.
