Sage Signs With Iowa Hoops

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Oklahoma native Tate Sage has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s basketball program, it was announced Thursday by head coach Ben McCollum.

Sage, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound guard from Weatherford, Oklahoma, originally signed to play for McCollum at Drake.  He is the second class of 2025 prospect to sign with the Hawkeyes, joining Valley’s Trevin Jirak.

“Tate is exactly what we need for the future of Iowa basketball,” said McCollum. “He’s 6-foot-7, 6-8, can shoot, drive, do a variety of things and guard multiple positions. He is also a winner.  We’re excited to have Tate be a Hawkeye.”

Sage is the 10th player overall to join the new-look Iowa roster this spring, joining Drake transfers Bennett StirtzKael CombsCam ManyawuIsaia Howard and Tavion Banks, Robert Morris transfer Alvaro Folgueiras, Kansas State transfer Brendan Hausen, Jirak and Hawkeye returnee Cooper Koch.

  • Earned Oklahoma Coaches Association Large West All-State and The Oklahoman’s Class 4A All-State team honors after averaging 13.1 points per game
  • Helped Weatherford to a 110-12 record the past four seasons, which included winning the 2025 4A state title as a senior
  • Weatherford made four state tournament appearances, where it advanced to four state semifinals, three state finals and had two state runner-up finishes
  • Averaged 11 points, 4.4 rebounds and four assists as a junior and 10.2 points. 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a sophomore… team went 28-2 both seasons
  • Has a twin brother, Ethan, who is committed to play at Pittsburg State
