(Burns, OR) – Officials with the Harney County, Oregon Sheriff’s Department, late Saturday night, said the remains of a southwest Iowa woman who was reported missing last month, were located earlier in the day Saturday, by volunteer searchers, and the family was notified. 29-year-old Kaylee Birt had been missing since April 4th. The Shenandoah native was last seen at a gas station/convenience store in Fields Station, OR.
She had been driving 1,600 miles from Klamath Falls, OR to Shenandoah. Her car was found April 6th in a remote part of Harney County, where a road has washed out. Birt was not in her vehicle. The search for Kaylee had previously been suspended April 11th, after an extensive search by land and air over the rugged southeast Oregon terrain failed to turn up any sign of the woman. Birt was listed as a missing person in the law enforcement data system. Signage was posted near her last known location, informing visitors to the area to be vigilant of any potential evidence.
