IOWA CITY, Iowa – Oklahoma State transfer Grant Gudgel has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s golf program, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Tyler Stith.  Gudgel will have three seasons of eligibility remaining with the Hawkeyes.
“We knew during our first phone conversation Grant was a perfect fit. He is a competitor with big aspirations and wants to help the team win,” said head coach Tyler Stith. “Grant’s personality and work ethic will immediately make this team better. We can’t wait for him to arrive in Iowa City and help us win golf tournaments.”
Earlier this year, Gudgel won the Saguaro Amateur in Scottsdale, Arizona, finishing at 9-under par (201) with rounds of 63, 67 and 71. He opened the tournament with an eagle on the second hole and recorded eight birdies in the round. The win marked his return to competition after overcoming a wrist injury that sidelined him during the fall.
The Stillwater, Oklahoma, native was named an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American in 2022 and earned all-state honors during his prep career. He won the Oklahoma Class 6A individual state title as a sophomore and captured the 2021 OGA Junior Championship.
Gudgel tallied five AJGA top-five finishes, including a tie for third at the 2023 Talor Gooch Foundation Junior Championship. He tied for seventh at the AJGA PING Invitational and helped Team USA to a third-place finish at the 2023 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup.
