AMES, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field team wrapped up its regular season at the Cyclone Twilight in Ames on Friday.

“Today was a great tune-up meet as we head into the Big Ten Championships next week,” said Director of Track and Field Joey Woody. “I was really pleased with how well Kai (Graves-Blanks) competed—running back-to-back wind-legal personal bests, which sets him up well for next weekend. Kalil (Johnson) also put together two strong races and is very close to a big breakthrough. It was great to see Lily (Johannes) come away with another personal best tonight. Carson Houg had a terrific race. Unfortunately he got tripped up with about 80 meters to go, which cost him a 3:48–3:49 finish. But he stayed on his feet and competed very well to the finish.”

Sophomore Kai Graves-Blanks cruised through the 110-meter hurdle prelims with a time of 13.61, ranking seventh all-time in program history. He returned in the finals to claim gold, improving his mark to 13.59. Teammates Kalil Johnson and Drew Dillard also reached the finals, finishing fourth (14.23) and seventh (14.67), respectively.

In the men’s triple jump, sophomore Precious Irivi earned an event victory with a leap of 14.73 meters.

The Hawkeyes recorded six personal bests on the day. Freshman Braedin Zondervan clocked a 47.82 in the men’s 400 meters to finish third. Juniors Alexandria Edison, Lily Johannes and Isabelle Woody also notched career bests in their respective events.

In the women’s 1,500 meters, the entire Hawkeye squad posted career-best times. Freshman Julia Gehl led the group with a 10th-place finish in 4:38.09. Juniors Rowan Boulter (4:50.01) and Ellie Rathe (4:57.74) also achieved personal-best marks.

Up Next: The Hawkeyes head to Eugene, Oregon, for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Competition begins Friday, May 16, and continues through Sunday, May 18.
