4 Hawkeyes Garner CSC Academic All-District Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Four University of Iowa tennis student-athletes – juniors Daianne Hayashida and Pia Kranholdt and seniors Barbora Pokorna and Marisa Schmidt – have been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections, it was announced Tuesday by the CSC.
It is the third straight year Schmidt has earned the distinction and it is the second consecutive honor for Kranholdt, Pokorna and Hayashida.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must have a 3.50 GPA, completed one full calendar year at their current institution and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Nominees must also be a starter or important reserve to the team and have participated in at least 70 percent of the team’s contests.
Hayashida advances to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 3.
Hayashida and Kranholdt are both double majors in psychology and sport and recreation management. Pokorna will graduate with a double major in international relations and Spanish, while Schmidt will earn a degree in finance.
On the court, Hayashida was a first-team All-Big Ten selection after leading the team with 20 singles victories. Pokorna won 14 singles matches, including 12 in duals, while Schmidt and Kranholdt both had 12 singles wins. Kranholdt was also tied for second on the team with 15 doubles victories.
Iowa finished the season with a 13-11 overall record and a 7-6 mark in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 and for the eighth time in program history.
