Pole barn/Machine shed destroyed by fire in Elliott, Sunday afternoon

(Elliott, Iowa)- Firefighters from Elliott and numerous other agencies, worked to battle a pole barn/machine shed fire Sunday afternoon, in Elliott. Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce reports the Elliott, Red Oak and Grant Fire Departments were dispatched at 12:40-p.m. to the scene at 92 Main Street in Elliott, for a detached large pole barn on fire. Upon arrival, crews a large machine shed/pole barn was fully engulfed in fire.

Defensive fireground operations were initiated. Additional assistance was received from the Griswold FD. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at approximately 2:27 p.m.
Due to the large structures roof collapsing in and hampering suppression operations, an excavator was summoned to assist with debris removal so suppression operations could be completed. At 3:40 p.m. Elliott FD terminated fireground operations. No injuries to civilians or firefighters reported.
