Iowa State quarterbacks coach Jake Waters says spring drills have been important for freshman Alex Manske, even though he is not taking part in practice. The former Algona High School standout had his senior season cut short after tearing a ligament in his throwing elbow is still about a month away from being fully cleared.

Waters says the key right now for Manske is learning the offense.
