IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa Junior RHP Aaron Savary has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday. The honor is the first of his career and first for the Hawkeyes this season.

The Dubuque, Iowa, native threw five shutout innings against Rutgers allowing just three hits (all singles) and two walks. He struck out six as the Hawkeyes won, 16-0, in seven innings.

Savary improved to 3-0 on the season with a 1.66 ERA. He has allowed just nine hits in 22 2/3 innings of work and ranks 15th in the nation with 3.74 hits allowed per nine innings. Savary who has been part of two Hawkeye shutouts, has allowed only four earned runs and two extra base hits on the season.

The Hawkeyes return home on Tuesday, hosting Augustana at 4:05 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field.
