Haybale fire NE of Stanton quickly spreads & becomes visible on satellite/infrared

(Red Oak, Iowa) – Montgomery County Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Hamman reports shortly after 3-p.m., Friday, Montgomery County 911 received a report of a haybale on fire that was extending to a cornfield at 2745 220th St., (northeast of Stanton). Within minutes, Montgomery County EMA was notified via US National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Nebraska of a wildfire detection in the same area.
Hamman says “Prior to fire crews arriving on scene and with smoke visible from several miles away, red flag conditions present and confirmation of a wildfire detection via the NWS, additional mutual aid was requested. Montgomery County 911 also made notifications to area farmers for their assistance with tractors and discs who are on our current calling list. (Photos via Montgomery County EMA Facebook page)

“As the fire progressed rapidly to the north, multiple haybales were also consumed by fire as well as several more acres of dry harvested ground. Additional fire crews arrived on scene and with assistance from multiple area farmers with farm equipment, the fire was quickly contained. Orme Outdoors and Allen Tile and Drainage also aided in burying the burning haybales to alleviate any rekindle concerns.”
