March 24th, 2025 by Christian Adams
The AHSTW Boys Track & Field team have a 16-man roster this Spring including a three-man senior class. The Vikings have four juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen as well. AHSTW kicked off the season at the IATC Indoor Championships in Ames on Thursday, March 13th with a seventh-place finish.
The Vikings scored 23 points highlighted by two top three finishes for Senior Luke Sternberg in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Fellow Senior Jett Peterson was the runner-up in the shot-put competition throwing 49 feet and eight inches. The meet at Iowa State was the first of eleven meets on the schedule this year which includes a co-ed home meet on April 11th.
AHSTW brings back three of the four athletes from the 4×800 meter relay team that competed at the state meet last year in Chase Wheatley, Caden Geraghty, and Collin Harder. Those three plus Junior Ty Nelson ran the event in Ames a couple of weeks ago and finished eighth.
Head Coach Jason Renberg says he is proud of all his guys so far this season.
Renberg has goals for a few of his athletes to get the opportunity to compete at the Drake Relays.
Working hard day in and day out is the team-oriented goal in 2025.
AHSTW will continue their season at the Audubon Invitational on April 1st.
