Riverside Girls Victorious over Fremont-Mills Tuesday
February 18th, 2025 by Christian Adams
The Riverside Bulldogs earned a 58-23 win over the Fremont-Mills Knights Tuesday night behind 22 Sydney Somers points. The Bulldogs had a suffocating defense all night long and played a complete game in the 35-point victory.
Riverside wasted no time from the beginning and jumped out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs feed Somers down low for six first-quarter points and an alliance to crash the boards for second-chance opportunities. Meanwhile, Fremont-Mills relied on their three-point shooting in the early going. This included a three from Senior Bella Gute in the opening frame.
The Bulldogs had a knack for getting to the free throw line in the second quarter as they shot a stellar six-for-seven from the charity stripe in the quarter and took a 39-8 halftime lead into the locker room.
The Knights came out aggressive in the third quarter with a Bella Gute three early and had a presence in the paint to draw contact and get to the free-throw line frequently. Fremont-Mills took advantage of the free-throw opportunities as they hit five free strokes in the third.
Despite the good shooting from the charity stripe from the Knights, the Bulldogs did not let up on both sides of the basketball and in transition. Somers matched her first quarter point total with another eight points in the third, giving Riverside a 49-20 lead after three.
In the fourth quarter, Elly Henderson came off the bench and put four points on the scoreboard to end with ten on the night. Fremont-Mills ended their season at 13-9 led by nine Bella Gute points, while the Bulldogs improved to 19-3 on the season and set themselves up for a matchup with CAM on Friday Night.
Tipoff from Oakland is schedule for 7 pm.
