Atlantic Girls Seek Trip to Regional Final with Battle at Harlan
February 18th, 2025 by Christian Adams
The Atlantic Girls’ Basketball team is gearing up for their third meeting of the year with the Harlan Cyclones in the 3A Region 5 Semi-Final Wednesday night. The 17-6 Spartans handed Harlan a 63-41 loss back on Feb. 11th at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Atlantic comes in hot riding a five-game win streak into the matchup. Head Coach Dan Vargason thanks the defensive efforts and the consistency on offense in the well-played last couple of weeks.
The Trojans are led by Senior Guard Paytn Harter, who averages over 17 points a game, while collecting ten rebounds a game. She’s not only a leader on the court for her teammates but also a great spirit to have in the locker room.
Atlantic looks to take that next step forward in their program by advancing to a Class 3A Region Championship game. The Trojans have fallen on numerous occasions in this pivotal second game of the tournament. That can all change by walking into a familiar foe’s territory and walking out with a victory. Although, Head Coach Dan Vargason says the Cyclones could show the Trojans something they haven’t seen before, and Atlantic has to be ready for it.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 P.M. Wednesday night in Harlan and will be covered live on KJAN 1220 AM.
