Spartans girls basketball wins big at home

The Exira-EHK Spartans girls basketball team had firm win on Thursday evening over the Ar-We-Va Rockets 64-27. The Spartans came out of the gate poised for a win leading 23-6 at the end of the first. Throughout the second quarter Exira-EHK continued to land shots and saw their lead grow up to 26 at half. In the second half Exira-EHK kept up their stifling defense and Ar-We-Va had no answer only scoring 15 points in the final two quarters. Taryn Petersen played sharp leading the Spartans in scoring with 21. Rilley Miller also had an impressive game with 13 points.
Exira-EHK head coach Tom Petersen was pleased with the way his defense performed throughout the game.
Coach Petersen also noted that their overwhelming defense truly assisted the Spartans scoring.
The Rockets were led in the loss by 13 points from Azaya Martinez. Gabbie Hundling finished with 7 points for Ar-We-Va as their record drops to 2-9.
The Spartans improve to 8-3 and stay at home to face Boyer Valley on Friday. Coach Petersen hopes to see more defensive intensity.
Tipoff in Elk Horn is set for 6:00 p.m.
