Riverside Girls Outlast CAM in Close Win
January 23rd, 2025 by Christian Adams
The Riverside Bulldogs girls basketball team outlasted the CAM Cougars to pick up a 56-48 win in Anita Thursday night. It was a tight contest in which both teams pressed and were able to cause turnovers. However, it was the start of the halves that ultimately set the Bulldogs apart.
One of the main stories of the game was Riverside’s start to both halves and the Bulldogs got off to a strong start. Riverside hit back-to-back threes from Sophia Taylor and Ryleigh Ewalt to open the game on an 11-0 run. However, CAM responded and went on a 6-0 run while scoring eight of the next ten points. The Cougars continued to battle back throughout the remainder of the first half. Three balls from Maddie Richter and Courtney Follman helped the Cougars take a slim lead. However, Riverside grabbed some momentum back to take a slime 29-25 lead into the half.
The Second half was almost a carbon copy of the first. Riverside grabbed the momentum early in the quarter jumping out to a double-digit lead. Despite this, CAM was never out of the equation. Maddie Richter’s three field goals as a part of her game-leading 11 points contributed while Ada Hansen knocked down a pair of field goals in the second half. Once again, the Cougars battled back and cut the deficit to as little as a point. However, the bulldogs were able to pull away late. Although Sophia Taylor led Riverside with nine points, 10 other Bulldogs got on the scoresheet with seven of them contributing over five points. Although it wasn’t one of Riveside’s prettiest wins, Coach Jeppesen said it counts all the same.
Jeppesen also praised multiple Bulldog’s efforts, including Taylor’s.
The win pushed Riverside to 13-2 on the year, while CAM fell to 6-9. The Cougars remain at home Friday as they take on West Harrison while the Bulldogs return home to face Tri-Center.
