Atlantic Girls Pull Out Scrappy Victory at Glenwood
January 8th, 2025 by Christian Adams
The Atlantic Trojans girls basketball team found a way to win a scrappy road game on Tuesday Night. The last time the Trojans faced off against the Glenwood Rams, Atlantic pitched a first half shutout. However, this game would be very different. Both defenses were stingy and although Atlantic struggled at times, they pulled a 43-38 conference win.
It was clear from the start that this game would differ from the team’s previous meeting. Glenwood came out to prove that they would not be pushed around. Although the offenses were slow to start, the defenses were not. The Trojans allowed just five points in the opening quarter. Despite the offense not being at its best Paytn Hartr and Katrina Williams led the way to help Atlantic hold a one point lead at the half.
By no means was Tuesday the cleanest game for the Trojans. A few uncharacteristic mistakes, some shots not falling, and a stingy Glenwood defense made things difficult. However, Atlantic found a way. Hartr was key on offense leading the game with 17 points while Williams wasn’t far behind finishing with 15. Despite not being the Trojans’ best effort head coach Dan Vargason was proud that his team powered through.
Vargason was also pleased with the effort of Williams and Hartr and knew they gave them and edge in the paint.
Atlantic will be back on the road against Kuemper Catholic on Friday and Vargason says that ball protection and scoring depth will be key.
Tipoff in Carroll is scheduled for 6 pm.
