The Riverside Bulldogs boys basketball team had a hard fought victory Thursday night winning 52-48 in Oakland over the East Mills Wolverines. The first quarter set the tone for the high energy and gritty game as it contained four lead changes and two ties with the first quarter ending with a 12-12 score. In the second quarter the offense output slowed down for both sides as neither side could score score until minutes into the frame. Riverside was first to break the tie, thanks to Owen Fenner. Still, East Mills was able to answer with constant perimeter scoring by Mason Camden as he was able to give his team the lead at halftime going up 23-22.

In the second half is where things started to heat up for Riverside as Peyton Amdor hit two triples to spark his team in the third to ultimately give them the lead at 37-33. In the fourth quarter East Mills had a response to Amdor’s sudden offensive outpouring in Mason Camden and Jackson Embree who both could not be stopped when trying to score inside the paint. The game then came down to mere seconds left in the fourth and Riverside being only up by two, Dawson Henderson was sent to the free throw line after being fouled while grabbing an offensive rebound and he proceeded to make back to back free throw shots ultimately sealing his teams win.

The Bulldogs leading scorer with 15 points was Amdor and Fender was close behind with 11. The late game grit and 11 point performance by Henderson, did impress Riverside head coach Nick Kroon.

Coach Kroon also commented how well East Mills defense performed all four quarters.

The Wolverines were led in scoring by Mason Camden with 17 and Embree with 11. The loss puts East Mills at 3-2 on the year as they head home to face Lourdes Central Catholic on Saturday. Riversides victory puts them at 3-1 and their next contest is Friday at home against Logan-Magnolia.
