July 7th, 2023 by Asa Lucas

The Atlantic Trojan baseball team lost to Harlan 12-2 tonight. It was another game riddled with errors for the Trojans as they totaled 6 on the night. Atlantic did score first off, a rare Cyclone error when Weston Reisz bobbled a ground ball. The took the lead 1-0 for the first and only time on the night. The next time the Trojans scored was due to a crisp Tanner O’Brien RBI single making the game 4-2. There was hope for the Trojans heading into the 5th, but Stephen Leinen’s precise pitching held Atlantic scoreless after the 4th. He limited Atlantic to 4 hits, with 3 walks, 1 earned run, and 12 strikeouts.

Harlan went out to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th with the help of a few errors and a 2 RBI single from Matthew Sorfonden. They ended the inning with a 9-2 lead. Heading into the bottom of the 6th, the Cyclones looked unstoppable. They had consecutive 3 hits in the inning, including 2 doubles and had the walk off run come in from an error by the infield. The Cyclones had a well-earned victory with 14 hits and only 2 errors.

Coach Gaylord Schilling saw notable effort from his players tonight.

One of the highlights for Coach Schilling this season was the changes he saw from his seniors.

The Trojans have their season end with a (10-17) record. Harlan will move on having their record stand at (20-14) and they will face Storm Lake on the road Monday July 10th at 7PM.
