AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s golf head coach Andrew Tank has announced the addition of Will Pearson to the coaching staff.

Pearson joins the Cyclone staff after spending the last nine years on staff at Memphis. He joined the Tiger staff in 2015 as a graduate assistant before moving into a full-time assistant coach role in 2017.

“I’m excited to welcome Will to Ames,” Tank said. “He’s experienced and will bring a fresh perspective to help us reach new levels of success. Will is a player’s coach, and I’m excited for the relationships he will build with our team and recruits.”

During his time with the Tigers, he helped Memphis to some of the best seasons in school history. The 2016 team was the highest ranked team in program history, while the 2019 team won the American Athletic Conference championship. Pearson coached a pair of All-Americans in Lars Van Meijel and Isaiah Jackson. Ven Meijel played in the Palmer Cup, while Jackson finished with the lowest season stroke average in Memphis history. Pearson was part of a coaching staff that recruited the top six ranked amateur players in Memphis history during the modern era.

Pearson started his collegiate golf career at Arkansas before transferring to Memphis. He was a two-time Srixon/Cleveland Golf Academic All-American, while twice being named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week. He earned All-American Athletic Conference honors in 2014. He led Memphis to an NCAA Regional appearance in each of his three years, including a spot in the NCAA Championships in 2012. Pearson recorded the second-lowest round in school history when he shot a 64 at the USF Invitational during the 2013-14 season. The 65 he shot at the NCAA West Regional in 2013 is tied for the fourth-lowest round in school history. During his senior campaign, his 72.5 stroke average was the sixth-best in school history, while his 73.5 career average also ranks sixth in school history.
