IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa student-athletes Nia Carter (softball) and Austin Kresley (men’s track and field) were named May’s Student-Athletes of the Month, the University of Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced.

Carter, a senior outfielder from Rancho Cucamonga, California, hit .467 in 10 starts in right field. Carter was 14-for-30 with three RBIs and eight runs scored. She also had an OBP of .543 and slugging percentage of .567. During May, Carter broke Iowa’s single season hit record with 101 base hits. She was named first team all-Big Ten and NFCA first team all-region. Carter finished her season by helping lead the Hawkeyes to an NISC championship, while earning all-tournament team honors.

Kresley, a junior sprinter from Oakley, California, won the 200-meter Big Ten title and broke his own school record with a 20.26 finish. Kresley ran the second leg of the 4×100-meter relay that also won the Big Ten title. His performances in May qualified him in both events for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, in June.
