A special Senior Night for Lake Mills baseball

Following Lake Mills’ senior night game Wednesday might against Forest City, over 100 people gathered behind the backstop to watch Coach Joel Koch and Shana Rogstad get their heads shaved. Caycee Barrett came to the plate in the sixth innings of Lake Mills’ loss to Forest City to a large applause from both fans wearing purple and gold and red and white. Barrett, a senior on the Lake Mills baseball team, was playing in his final regular season game as a Bulldog. Wearing his black number five jersey, Barrett strolled to the plate for an at-bat against Forest City sophomore James Hagen, despite his diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer, earlier this year.

Koch and his wife, Jenny, came up with the idea to start a GoFundMe for Caycee and posted it on social media, stating that if they raised two thousand dollars, Coach Koch would allow Barrett to shave his head on a senior night. Well, the Lake Mills community didn’t take long to respond. Within a few hours, the two-thousand-dollar mark was reached, and the plan was set in motion.

Community member Shana Rogstad announced earlier this month that if the donation totals exceed 15,000 dollars, she, too, would let Caycee shave her head. The Lake Mills and surrounding communities responded, surpassing the 15k threshold, and Rogstad held up her end of the deal, taking a seat on the bucket.
