Exira-EHK freshman Brylie Andersen glanced in a three high off the glass from the corner to help lift Exira-EHK to a 62-58 win over the CAM Cougars on Friday night in Anita. It was a back-and-forth affair and the Cougars were up 58-56 in the final minute when Andersen got the three to put the Spartans on top. They would get a couple more free throws and a big rebound on a free throw miss to seal the win.

Exira-EHK head coach Tom Petersen was proud of the effort, “We faced a lot of adversity tonight. Obviously it’s a game of runs but for the girls to find a way, that’s what I told them in the locker room I was really proud of the effort. That’s one of the things I love about this group, the 50-50 balls they are all over the floor so I love ’em.”

The Spartans started the game on a 10-0 run but the Cougars rallied to lead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. Exira-EHK led 31-29 at half and 44-40 at the end of the third. The game featured ten lead changes.

Exira-EHK was led by 15 points from Quinn Grubbs, 14 from Jaelynn Petersen, and 11 from Shay Burmeister. The Spartans improved to 3-0 and will be back at it on Saturday with a trip to IKM-Manning.

CAM got 15 points each from Reese Snyder and Eva Steffensen. The Cougars fall to 3-2 and will next up head to West Harrison on Tuesday.
