The Atlantic softball team had a great Friday at the ballpark. The Trojans beat Kuemper Catholic in the first game of a triangular 5-4 in comeback fashion. They followed that with an induction ceremony to add two more members to the Trojan Softball Hall of Fame. Then they capped off the night with a 3-1 win over Class 3A #8 Estherville-Lincoln Central.

Zoey Kirchhoff was phenomenal in the nightcap with 11 strikeouts with just one walk and only 3 hits allowed. Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzman was very proud of her effort in the circle.

Kirchhoff said she felt pretty confident out there.

Ava Bruckner started the scoring with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. Jada Jensen reached on an error to drive in a run in the fifth when the bases were loaded and Madison Huddleson followed with an RBI single to bring the lead to 3-0 at that point. Coach Hinzman thought they battled well at the plate as a team.

The Midgets plated their lone run on an RBI single by Kaitlyn Tendal in the 6th. Atlantic improved to 6-2 on the season and will play two more games on Saturday as they host the Trojan Tournament at the Atlantic Little League Complex.

Program pioneer Mel Allen and original team member Karen Hoffmann were inducted into the Trojan Softball Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony and original team co-captain Deb Wheatley Field threw out the first pitch. You can hear interview with Karen, Deb, and Mel’s daughter during the early innings of our broadcast. Watch and listen back on our KJANTV broadcast HERE.
