The Atlantic girls soccer team has showed some great progress this season. The Trojans are off to a 5-2 start, and according to head coach Dan Vargason the team play has been solid throughout. Atlantic suffered a tough loss to a good Lewis Central team 11-1 last week but Coach Vargason thought they played well early in that match.

He was anxious to see how they would bounce back from their first deflating defeat and they responded well with a 6-0 win over Logan-Magnolia last Friday. Coach Vargason said their knowledge of the offense and proper spacing have been some of the biggest improvements this season.

He said the team has been pretty cohesive despite having athletes from a couple of other school districts. He said you wouldn’t even know the roster is composed that way by the way the team interacts and works together. He said one thing that will need to improve to continue to have success is a little better movement and passing.

The soccer season hasn’t been a pleasant one weather-wise so far but he said they just try to preach to the kids to block the elements out the best they can. He feels like the team has done a good job of not letting the weather get them down. The Trojans hope to build on the positive start they have had to the season and put together a possibly historic season for the program.
