DETROIT – Three Iowa State Cyclones earned All-American honors Friday night at the NCAA Championships, as the Cyclones increased the total number of wrestling All-Americans at Iowa State to 304 by 160 individuals.

David Carr (157), Marcus Coleman (184) and Yonger Bastida (197) are the latest Cyclones to join the All-American club. Carr and Bastida won a pair of matches, as they advanced to the consolation semifinals on Saturday morning. Coleman won his first match of the night and will wrestle for seventh place on Saturday morning. The medal matches begin at 10 a.m. (CT) Saturday at Little Caesars Arena and will be aired on ESPNU.

Iowa State’s three wrestlers in the Blood Round was the most since having three in 2010. Carr became the 35^th three-time All-American in program history. Coleman is the first 184 pound All-American since Jake Varner in 2008.

Carr opened the night by beating No. 6 Jared Franek of North Dakota State 4-3 in the Blood Round. Trailing 3-2, Carr used a takedown with :26 left to secure his sixth career victory over Franek. The two have met each other in the last two Big 12 Championship matches. Carr won his second match of the night by medical forfeit over No. 11 Austin O’Connor (North Carolina). Carr will face No. 8 Will Lewan of Michigan in the consolation semifinals. Carr defeated Lewan by 10-2 major decision in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Championships.

Coleman dominated his blood round match, eliminating No. 6 Trey Munoz of Oregon State by 13-2 major decision. Coleman led 3-2 after the first period and started the second on bottom. Coleman escaped :06 into the period, while recording a takedown and four nearfall points with :19 left in the period. Coleman added a takedown, a stalling point and a riding time point for the major decision. In the consolation quarterfinals, No. 7 Kaleb Romero of Ohio State beat Coleman by 13-4 major decision. Coleman will face Cornell’s 11^th-seeded Jonathan Loew in the seventh-place match.

Bastida had a pair of one-point matches, as he advanced to the consolation semifinals. A late takedown first period gave Bastida a 2-0 lead after one. Woodley escaped in the second, as Bastida led 2-1 into the third period. Bastida opened the final period with a takedown, but Woodley countered with an escape and takedown with 1:01 left to tie the match. Bastida escaped with :47 left for the win. In the win over Bulsak, Bastida led 2-1 after the first period with a takedown with :32 left in the first period. Bastida had a takedown in the second period, as he held on to win 4-3 after a neutral start to the third. Bastida will face No. 2 Stephen Buchanan of Wyoming in the consolation semifinals. Buchanan is 2-0 against Bastida this year, having beaten Bastida 6-4 (SV) in the dual and winning by fall in 6:57 at the Big 12 Championship.

Penn State leads the team race with 108 points, while Michigan is second with 84.5. Arizona State is third with 63.5. The Cyclones moved up to 19^th with 28.5 points going into the final day.
