Drake women lose in waning moments to Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The Drake University women’s basketball team fell to Missouri State, 59-63, in the final seconds on Friday evening.

With 1:04 left in the game, Maggie Bair went to the line for two shots. She made both and pulled the Bulldogs within two of the Bears, 59-57.

On the next play, Bears forward Abby Jackson turned the ball over in the paint and Katie Dinnebier scored a lay-up to tie the game 59-59.

With 17 seconds left, Bair fouled Missouri State guard Mariah White, sending her to the free throw line. White made both shots to put the Bears up two.

Grace Berg was then fouled with six seconds left. She went to the line for two but missed both shots in a loud JQH Arena.

Berg finished with 10 points, three rebounds, and two blocks.

With five seconds on the clock, Maggie Bair received her fifth foul, drawn by Jackson. Jackson went to the line and made both shots to put the Bears up four.

Bair finished with 15 points and led the team with three assists.

Jackson led the Bears with 22 points, adding six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

Maddie Petersen attempted a three pointer with one second left but was blocked by Missouri State, ending the game 59-63.

Petersen finished with 10 points. She is five points away from hitting 1,000 on her career and two assists away from 500 on her career.

Next up the Bulldogs head to Carbondale, Ill. to take on SIU on Sunday Feb. 13.
