Creighton beats Marquette in double overtime

Alex O’Connell hit a three at the buzzer of overtime to force another extra session and Creighton outscored Marquette 8-2 the rest of the way for a 75-69 double overtime win on Saturday.

Marquette rallied all the way back from 17 points down early in the second half to get the game to overtime in the first place. The Bluejays then overcame a five point deficit in the final 62 seconds of overtime to keep the game alive.

Ryan Hawkins had 18 points with 12 rebounds for his 34th career double-double. He hit a big three in the second overtime that broke a 69-all tie. Ryan Kalkbrenner had a monster game with 20 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs to go along with 4 blocks.

Creighton improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the Big East. Marquette fell to 8-6 overall and 0-3 in the Big East.

Next up for the Bluejays is a Wednesday visit to Villanova for a 7:30 p.m. game on FS1.
