HUMBOLDT, Iowa – Iowa State Wrestling Head Coach Kevin Dresser picked up his 200^th career win Sunday night, as the 13^th-ranked Cyclones beat 15^th-ranked Purdue 23-13 at Humboldt High School. The victory came in his hometown gym, as Humboldt is the hometown for Dresser and Purdue head coach Tony Ersland.

The Boilermakers jumped out to an 11-0 lead through the first three matches. Purdue earned a major decision at 125 pounds and 141 to take the early lead. Iowa State got on the board at 149 pounds, as 24^th-ranked Jarrett Degen earned a 20-1 (6:10) technical fall against Trey Kruse. Leading 4-0 going into the second period, Degen earned a quick reversal before adding a pair of nearfall points. With :10 left in the second period, Degen increased his lead to 12-0 with a four-point nearfall. The match ended as Degen earned a takedown with 1:00 to go before another four-point nearfall with :50 left. It was the 80^th career victory for Degen, as he improved to 6-1 on the year.

In one of the most anticipated matches of the night, top-ranked David Carr defeated 11^th-ranked Kendall Coleman by fall (4:30) at 157 pounds. Carr led 2-0 after the first period and added two takedowns for a 7-1 lead in the second before recording the fall. Purdue was deducted a team point following the 157-pound match, giving Iowa State the 11-10 lead. Carr moved to 8-0 on the year with his 41^st-straight victory, the second-longest active streak in the nation.

Purdue’s final victory came at 165 pounds, as Hayden Lohrey edged Austin Kraisser 5-3. At 174 pounds, Joel Devine downed 21^st-ranked Gerrit Nijenhuis 4-1. Devine opened the scoring with a first period takedown. Leading 2-1 into the third period, Devine earned a point for stalling before getting a riding time (1:09) point for the victory. The Devine victory gave Iowa State the lead for good.

It was another top-20 battle at 184 pounds, as 13^th-ranked Marcus Coleman defeated 20^th-ranked Max Lyon 8-2. Coleman recorded a takedown in each of the first two periods, taking a 4-2 lead into the final period. Coleman escaped :12 into the period and added a takedown with :12 left to seal the victory.

Ranked 18^th in the country, Yonger Bastida picked up his second-straight top-10 win as he defeated 10^th-ranked Thomas Penola 6-4 at 197 pounds. Bastida had a takedown in each of the first two periods to take a 4-3 lead into the third period. The final takedown came with 1:11 left for Bastida’s victory that put Iowa State ahead 20-13. Bastida moved to 7-1 on the year with the win. Sam Schuyler recorded a takedown :12 into the match at heavyweight, as he beat Michael Woulfe 2-0.
