[UPDATE] DCI Investigating Appanoose County Officer Involved Shooting

[Update 3;34-p.m.: The DCI has identified the person killed as 45 year old Kevin Arbogast of Centerville. An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the State Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause and manner of death. ]

(Centerville, Iowa) – Officials with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating a deadly shooting in Appanoose County that involved police officers and a deputy. According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Centerville police officers were dispatched to a domestic assault in the 21000 block of 560th Street outside Centerville at about 3:43-p.m., Sunday.

“While investigating the incident, two Centerville officers and an Appanoose County sheriff’s deputy were engaged in an officer-involved shooting that resulted in one person killed. The law enforcement officers were not injured,” DPS officials said through a news release. The officers involved have been placed on critical incident leave, as is standard practice.

The identity of the person killed in the shooting and the officers involved have not been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
