CLASS A

West Hancock, Britt 19, Grundy Center 14 | BOX SCORE

West Hancock built a 19-7 lead in the third quarter and held off a Grundy Center rally. The Spartans drove all the way down to the West Hancock 9 yard line but time ran out. Logan Knaack’s tan to the 9 on the final play and the Spartans desperately tried to line up to spike the ball and stop the clock, but it was too late. Grundy Center outgained West Hancock 344-251 but still came up short. Matthew Francis rushed for 119 yards and 1 touchdown to lead West Hancock.

CLASS 1A

Van Meter 17, West Sioux, Hawarden 14 | BOX SCORE

Katie Lindsay made a 27-yard field goal with 7:21 left that proved to be the winning margin for the Bulldogs. She becomes the first girl to score points in a football championship game. Dalten Van Pelt rushed for 122 yards and Jack Pettit rushed for a score and threw another to give Van Meter the title. They win it after finishing as runners-up last season.

CLASS 4A

Lewis Central 32, Xavier, Cedar Rapids 24  3OT

Braylon Kmmrad scored on a 1 yard plunge in triple overtime and the Titans came up with two straight goal line stands at the 1 yard line to grab the victory. The game ended in a 10-10 tie in regulation and both teams scored touchdowns with PAT’s in the first two overtime periods. There was a lengthy delay before the third overtime because the lights at the UNI-Dome went out because they were on a timer for 10:00 p.m.

Braylon Kammrad threw for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns for Lewis Central and Jonathan Humpal added 92 yards and a score on the ground. Iowa State recruit Hunter Deyo had 2.5 tackles for loss.
